A boating safety class sponsored by the Sportsmen's Club of Lake Vermilion has been rescheduled. The Coast Guard-certified course will now be offered on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. at the Tower Civic Center. Instructor will be Tim Engrav from Ash River. The course includes a wide variety of topics from types of boats, laws, tips on safe docking, navigation aids and safe boat handling techniques to EPA issues, trailering and storage hints, fishing and hunting tips, water-skiing and personal watercraft. Workshop participants will receive a 58-page manual. In addition, several insurance companies grant a discount to those who have completed the course. Anyone who has witnessed careless or irresponsible boating behavior on the lake knows of the need for informed, safe drivers who respect the well-being of others on the water. This is an excellent opportunity for young people to have a great, safe start on the water. Cost for the course is $40, which includes lunch, the manual and the certificate of completion.
