The Ashawa Trail Ski Club met Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at the Harvest Moon restaurant. Present were: Pat and Karen mcDermott, Mike and Patty Naughton, Lori Peetsch and Steve Anderson, Mike Wilson, Dale and Nan Lundblad, Joanne Bergman and Ed Borowiec, Joanne Anderson, Rita Lakmann and Lori Karau.
President, Pat McDermott called the meeting to order. Minutes were read by Karen McDermott and approved. Lori Peetsch gave the treasurer¹s report. The Club has $5970.00 in checking, $1958.57 in savings and $64.72 in the groomer fund.
Under old business, the trails were discussed. It was reported that the Wood Loop is packed and ready to ski. The Sunset Lake Loop needs packing and work done to get it re ady for skiing. A motion was made by dale Lundblad, seconded by Mike Naughton to purchase a chain saw for trail work. Mike Wilson will check with Larry Barnes at vermilion Small Engine to purchase a chain saw for work on the trails. It was also suggested that the MN Conservation Corporation may be available next summer to do some work on the trails that involve State lands. A day was set up for a work party to go out to the Sunset Loop. Members that can work on the trail are to be at the Sunset Loop on Saturday, January 8 at 10:00 a.m. The Wood Loop was also discussed, as it is a hazard without signs coming in and going out of the loop where the trail was split to go around or over the hill which was logged. Dale will order signs and Carol Booth and Jim ÍGanahl will put them up.
It was decided under new business to have a quarterly newsletter. Mike Naughton will write it and Joanne Bergman will edit it. Joanne also volunteered to write any grant applications for the Club. Ed Borowiec agreed to be in charge of publicity. The membership letter will go out next week. dale will write the letter and Lori and Nan will get it sent out.
Several ski outings were discussed. There is a moonlight ski in Grand Rapids sometime this winter. Fortune Bay Resort has cross country skiing on the golf course and the ski club in Atikokan, Ontario have invited our club to ski up there.
The next meeting will be February 1, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. at the South Switch.
Respectfully submitted,
Secretary - Karen McDermott
